Suitability

I've been speaking with Ellis Threader, a Software Engineer currently working at Vibyra, where he has been building his experience across client-facing development work for the past three years. Ellis came across well in our conversation, articulate about his work and genuinely engaged when talking through the technical detail of what he has delivered. He's at that mid-level point in his career where he has moved well beyond the fundamentals and is starting to take real ownership of meaningful pieces of work, which I think will appeal to the right hiring manager.

The standout piece of work Ellis described to me is a platform he built from the ground up at Vibyra, integrating Laravel and Node.js to handle ordering, payments, stock management and kitchen operations in a single cohesive system. What impressed me about the way he talked through it was the breadth of what it touched, tying together transactional processes and real-time operational needs into something coherent and production-ready. For a engineer with three years of experience, that kind of end-to-end delivery across multiple business-critical functions is a strong indicator of someone who thinks beyond the ticket in front of them.

Ellis works primarily across PHP and Laravel on the backend, alongside Node.js and TypeScript, with React handling the frontend and MySQL as his go-to database. His background in a consultancy environment means he is used to context-switching across different client codebases and requirements, which tends to produce engineers who are pragmatic and adaptable. He described to me a day-to-day that involves working closely with clients as well as engineering colleagues, so he is comfortable communicating about technical decisions without retreating into jargon, which is always a useful quality at this level.

Ellis has been open with me about why he is looking to move on. He mentioned that he is keen to join a product-focused team where he can go deeper on a single codebase over time, rather than moving between client projects, and he is looking for somewhere that will support his continued growth as an engineer. He is available immediately, with no notice period to work through, and is happy with either a hybrid arrangement or a fully UK-remote position. I would comfortably recommend Ellis for a mid-level fullstack role, particularly one where his Laravel and Node.js experience can be put to use from day one.
